Why did my silver purchase cost $0.02 when the amount was so small?

Silver is priced in ounces, but we allow fractional purchases. At very tiny amounts (like 0.0001 oz), the silver itself is worth less than half a cent. On top of that, a buy premium applies. After applying the premium and rounding to the nearest cent (since payments can’t be fractions of a cent), your cost becomes $0.02. This makes such small purchases uneconomic.
